Are All Cold Lasers the Same?

No, brands of cold lasers differ.  The Erchonia PL5 is currently rated the best in the industry.  In comparison, some cold lasers are not approved by the FDA.  The Erchonia laser was the first laser to obtain FDA approval for the treatment of chronic neck and shoulder pain.  According to all published studies to date, there has been no mention of any negative side effects with certain types of cold lasers – the Erchonia laser being one of them.

Currently, there are over 25 different cold lasers cleared by the FDA for various types of treatments.  Cold lasers have been in use around the world for over 30 years and have been in use in the United States for over 10 years.  Cold laser therapy has been proven completely safe in over 3000 worldwide studies.

How Does a Cold Laser Treat Pain?

The Erchonia PL-5 Cold Laser has nearly the same wavelength as the human cell.  This allows the laser beam to reach the cell without damaging it.  When the cells of the injured or unhealthy tissues are not functioning properly, the laser can be used to stimulate the cells to heal themselves.  This allows millions of cells to heal themselves.  Patients usually get a reduction of inflammation into the tissues and thereby pain relief!

Cold Lasers are often compared to acupuncture with  laser beams.  In most Cold Laser treatments, the laser beam is used to stimulate the body's accupoints or damaged areas in an attempt to increase the blood supply to parts of the body.  The energy from the laser may penetrate as deep as two inches into the body based on the power of the laser and other variables.  Each Cold Laser treatment takes about three minutes and the effects are immediate.

Cold Lasers dramatically speed recovery.  Cold Laser can be remarkably effective in the acute stage of care.  The acute stage of care is usually complicated by inflammation and muscle spasm.  Tissues treatable with Cold Laser include muscles, discs, nerves, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, bursae, and fascia.  There are also several frequencies available that a known to benefit a variety of different organ dysfunctions.

Why is it Referred to as a "Cold" Laser?

It is called Cold Laser because the beam doesn’t produce heat; therefore, there is no cutting or burning of any tissue.  Most patients hardly notice they're being treated.

Cold Laser is nothing like the lasers in medicine that are used to cut or burn tissue.  Instead, the Erchonia PL-5 penetrates the surface of the skin with no heating effect or damage.  The energy is directed deep into an effected area.   The Cold Laser then stimulates the body’s cells to convert an increase in chemical energy to promote natural healing.
